Making your very own hummus can very satisfying when it comes to saving money and flavor. Hummus is made with chickpeas, you can use canned when short on time or from dried chickpeas soaked overnight then cooked. Hummus starts with cooked chickpeas, tahini sesame paste, olive oil, few cloves of garlic, freshly squeezed lemons, and finally salt and pepper. You can add a few extra ingredients like cumin, red pepper, etc. for a personal touch.
- 2 cups canned chickpeas, drained, liquid reserved
- 4 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/4 cup tahini
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons liquid from the chickpeas
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- salt and pepper to taste
